Bloxwich Active Living Centre will be having the last of its tiles laid in the second week of February as the multi million pound Active Living project gets closer to its official opening in May.

With 15,500 tiles used for the main pool, 3,900 on the learner pool and the poolside walls and surrounds comprising of 11,100 the completion of the estimated 30,000 tiles marks a significant stage in the state of the art swimming and leisure facility’s completion.

The new centre which will include a 25 metre six lane swimming pool, teaching pool, sports hall, 100 station fitness suite, dance studio and cafe is on target for its completion of early Summer following a yearlong building programme.

Oak Park and Bloxwich Active Living Centres form part of a multi million pound scheme being built by ISG working with Walsall Council.

Funded through the Council’s £24.3 million Active Living Centres initiative, the project received a £2m grant from Sport England’s “Iconic” facilities award scheme to support Walsall Council’s aspiration to improve Walsall residents’ overall health and well-being.

Councillor Harris Portfolio Holder for Community, Communities, Leisure and Culture stated: “This is proving to be a very exciting time in the development of these two state of the art sports centres.

“It has been a huge effort by everyone involved to get to this stage and it’s a significant achievement. When completed these centres will offer the types of facilities that the people of Walsall deserve and I’m very proud to have been involved.”
