Transport chiefs in Walsall have today welcomed news that the Government will be providing £540,000 of funding to improve the highway and reduce congestion in the borough.
The Chancellor’s Autumn Statement recently announced an additional £1.5 billion of Government investment to improve the highway network across the UK and the Walsall borough is to get a share of the funding.
The money will be allocated over the next two years and will be used to improve various roads throughout the borough.
Councillor Tom Ansell, portfolio holder for transport and environment with Walsall Council’s Coalition, said: “We welcome this news that national Government will be providing the borough with additional funding to improve our road network and help reduce congestion.
“There is still lots of work to be done and we could always do with more funding, but this is a big boost which will really help make a difference and improve our roads,” he added.
