What We Do

What is Walsall Partnership?

Walsall Partnership acts as Walsall’s Local Strategic Partnership (LSP). LSP’s exist in nearly all local authority areas in England and Wales. They bring together representatives from the local statutory, voluntary, community and private sectors to address local problems, allocate funding, discuss strategies and initiatives. They aim to encourage joint working, and community involvement and prevent 'silo working' (i.e. different agencies that share aims working in isolation) with the general aim of ensuring resources are better allocated at a local level.

Why have Local Strategic Partnerships been set up?

Government perceive a lack of joint working on a local level lead to little progress in delivering in sustainable economic, social and physical regeneration and improved public services to meet the needs of the local community. Walsall Partnership consists of a combination of organisations, working co-operatively with the community to form our LSP. To achieve improvements the government, local authorities and other service providers need to work together to tackle the issues that really matter to local people.

How do they affect me?

By their very nature LSP’s have a local focus and allow all of it’s partners to work together identifying and tackling problems and issues that most affect people of Walsall. This means that action is targeted to give the maximum benefit and may help to make Walsall a great place in which to live, work and invest, these priorities for Walsall are set out in its Sustainable Community Strategy. Involvement of the community is a key aspect of the government's vision of local strategic partnerships and community consultation played a significant role in the SCS, Walsall Partnership ensures engagement undertaken by individual partners is shared across the partnership, there is an opportunity for members of the public and local community groups to get involved through Local Neighbourhood Partnerships (LNPs).

Who sits on the Partnerships and why?

The Partnership is made up of many organisations but there are two main governances which meet and discuss the needs of the community, and the direction of Walsall Partnership; Board members and the Executive Committee.

The Board provides overall strategic direction, which includes preparing and monitoring the SCS and Local Area Agreement. The board assess Walsalls needs and they ensure that activity is co-ordinated to address the needs of the community.

For more information on the board and their responsibilities view our constitution.

Currently the Executive Committee put the needs addressed by the board into practice along with the Executive groups for Children and Young People, Safer Stronger Communities, Health and Vulnerable Adults and Economic Development and Enterprise. In accordance with Walsalls SCS the Executive groups are currently being revised and in the near future will separate into People, Places and Prosperity. The Executive Committee meetings occur once every month; click to view reports from previous meetings .
