Huge star comes to Walsall

A huge star has been in Walsall this week to record a specially commissioned film that will be shown at Walsall Illuminations 2008.
Eight-foot tall Titan the walking, talking, dancing robot towered above film-makers as he performed his unique dance and robotic moves.
The film will be shown every evening throughout the Illuminations 38-night run, projected onto gigantic screens, surrounded by 20 LED light boxes.
Titan will also appear at the event on Sunday October 19 for a special Titan-themed evening.
The film’s creator Bruno Edwards was commissioned to make the short film – Techno Titan - by Illuminations organisers.
“I was delighted to be asked to create this piece for Walsall Illuminations. It was a huge challenge but one I really relished. This is the first time a short film has been commissioned specifically for the event. We have a fantastic film that will thrill visitors – they’ll want to watch it over and over again.”
The story behind the film features Titan searching through space and time looking for his perfect tune. He materialises in a dark club in Walsall where the DJ has just started to play Daft Punk’s “Technologic.” Titan loves the tune and shows off his dance moves to the track.
Titan creator Nik Fielding said he was “over the moon” to be involved in both the film project and Walsall Illuminations.
“Titan has been involved with the Illuminations – which of course is such a major event in the West Midlands – in the past. We are really glad to be back,” he said.
“I’m sure he will be very popular. Titan captivates audiences of all ages who can’t quite believe what they are seeing.
“We are thrilled that he will feature in a film shown every evening and will be at the event for a one-off special in October. Hopefully we’ll be invited back so we can be part of this amazing spectacle year after year.”
Walsall Illuminations 2008 runs from September 26 to November 02.
Other attractions will include special appearances by characters including Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob SquarePants and Peppa Pig as well as shows like Bob the Builder and Angelina Ballerina.
New light features include scenes from Dora the Explorer, Go Diego Go and a SpongeBob SquarePants laser show.
Tickets will go on sale from August 01.
