Walsall Power Station Pool

Description

Kingfisher

The main feature of interest at the site is the pond. This is set amongst an area of tall herb and scrub such as greater knapweed, restharrow, field scabious, white campion, yarrow and tufted vetch. The pond has been formed by excavation of a naturally moist area and filled with clean water and plant material more than 10 years ago. It has a varied vegetation which includes some species which are unusual. These are bogbean, fringed water-lily, lesser reedmace and club-rush. Other species include yellow flag iris, reedmace, reed sweet-grass, common spike rush, water plantain and false-fox-sedge.

The pond is used by a large number of dragonflies.

Management Recommendations

The main concern is that the pool should be kept as it is and any activities in the area should not affect the hydrological conditions or pollute the water. Monitoring and survey of the site would be useful.
