Scrutiny

Scrutiny is about making the council more accountable for the decisions they make on behalf of the local community. We are trying to make services better and give satisfaction to the public through scrutiny. There are five scrutiny panels that have responsibility for maintaining and reviewing services provided by the council.

Scrutiny panels carry out their role through:

  • Monitoring of Cabinet decisions,
  • Undertaking investigation into specific service areas,
  • Making recommendations to cabinet/council, and
  • Contributing towards policy development.

Scrutiny panels will listen to the concerns of local people to check out how the council and other organisations are performing. Further information on the role of scrutiny in the authority can be found in our “Tool-Kit for Scrutiny” (PDF 3.7MB). You can also request a scrutiny review using our Review form (PDF 20KB).
