Walsall Green Team prepares to meet a blacksmith

Date Published : 28 August 2008

Walsall youngsters who belong to an environmental group are being given the chance to step back in time and learn all about the life of a blacksmith.

Members of the Really Green Discovery Team, established by Walsall Council’s Countryside Services, can take part in the event at Sandwell Park Farm on Saturday September 13 2008 at 10.30am.

The team will watch a demonstration of the ancient craft by blacksmith Wayne Bullivant and a question and answer session will follow.

The Really Green Discovery Team is a club for eight to 16-year-olds who want to find something different to do on Saturday mornings and a host of activities have been run for youngsters.

Councillor Louise Harrison, Walsall Council Cabinet member for leisure and culture, said: “For this really innovative event the green team is joining forces with Birmingham Young Archaeologists’ Club.

“Members of both groups will be able to find out more about what each gets up to and possibly join in more of each other’s activities in the future.

“The blacksmith’s demonstration will be fascinating for the children and I’m sure they’ll get a lot out of the experience.”

The Really Green Discovery Team meets on the second Saturday of every month, throughout the year, for a morning of indoor and outdoor activities in Walsall’s countryside.

There is a charge of £1.50 per child and anyone interested in booking a place on this event, or finding out more, can contact senior countryside ranger Diana West on 01922 459813.
