Walsall children ready to play

Date Published : 20 August 2008

Two new play areas, costing over £50,000, have been opened in Walsall for the community to enjoy.

They are at Littleton Road in New Invention and at Wood End Park in Park Hall and boast new equipment and child-friendly rubber flooring.

Both had equipment dating back to the 1960s and the cash to update them has been found within Walsall Council’s repairs and maintenance budget.

Councillor Louise Harrison, Walsall Council Cabinet member for leisure and culture, said: “There are still a couple of weeks left before the children go back to school and we hope they will enjoy using these super play areas.

“Staff have been working hard over the last few months to remove outdated equipment and bring in new features which I’m sure will be very popular in both communities.

“At Littleton Road there is a climbing frame, swings, springy animals and a see-saw while at Wood End Road the climbing frame has features suitable for older children, a roundabout, and a see-saw.”

Paddock Councillor Rose Martin welcomed the Wood End improvements.

She said: “This is absolutely fantastic news for our children and they can now play safely.

“There are features geared towards older children, with some things for the smaller ones who can also make use of the nearby Newquay Park which has been refurbished in the last couple of years.”
