Mayor lends support to fostering fortnight recruitment events

Walsall Mayor, Melvin Pitt attended a recruitment fun day in Walsall Town Centre on Wednesday 14 May 2007 to help raise awareness for the need for people and families to considering fostering local children.
The mayor, along with Councillor Mohammed Arif, portfolio member for procurement met members of Walsall’s Foster Care Association and the fostering recruitment team at a fun day held in the town centre to promote awareness of fostering fortnight and the need for new fosters carers in Walsall.
Mayor of Walsall councillor Melvin Pitt said: “Foster carers play a key role in our communities and I was delighted to give my support to this event. Hopefully more families will consider taking up fostering.”
Walsall Council is urgently looking to recruit foster carers from a range of backgrounds to look after children of all ages, especially older children, teenagers and sibling groups.
Foster carers provide temporary and permanent placements as well as short term breaks for disabled children.
Further recruitment events will be held:-
- Thursday 22 May 2008 – Information evening at the Fostering and Adoption First Stop Shop in Freer Street from 5-8pm.
- Friday 23 May 2008 – Recruitment Fun Day at The Bridge, Walsall Town Centre, information display, fun activities and entertainment from The Glorishears of Brummagem Morris Dancers and Willenhall Sports School from 10am to 3pm
The event will provide an opportunity for people to learn more about fostering by talking to members of the Walsall fostering recruitment team and current foster carers.
