Landmark celebrated at Joseph Leckie

Delighted education chiefs are celebrating the start of a £6 million project to transform a Walsall school.
Work has started on phase one of the project to provide new classrooms at Joseph Leckie Community Technology College.
Contractors Willmott Dixon are set to finish the classroom block next summer.
The state-of-the-art building is set to be created to help give a better environment for teachers and pupils.
Councillor John O’Hare, Walsall Council Leader, said: “This is a major landmark in the life of one of Walsall’s schools and something we must celebrate.
“We have worked tremendously hard to secure the funding for this project. We have made a promise to make children and their education a priority. With this building and others around the borough we are making good on this promise I’m delighted to say.”
The project is the first phase of a master plan that will eventually see the whole college transformed.
The New block of 18 classrooms with includes drama facilities will allow for the temporary classrooms to be removed from the site
Councillor Zahid Ali, Walsall Council cabinet member for children’s services, said that the scheme was just part of an ongoing building programme.
He said: “This is an excellent good news story that I’m sure the school staff, pupils and their families will welcome with open arms.
“Today it is the turn of Joseph Leckie Community Technology college to celebrate the landmark of new building and the injection of confidence that it brings.
“We are working hard to make a brighter tomorrow for all children across the borough.”
Headteacher Keith Whittlestone said that he was delighted to see the day come when work had started on the new building.
He said: “I’m delighted to see work start to take shape. It’s a good day for Joseph Leckie Community Technology College.”
