Illuminations: Angelina, Peppa Pig and Pirates
Date Published : 07 October 2008
Shiver me timbers! It’s time for the pirates of the Arboretum as the Walsall Illuminations get set for sea faring shenanigans.
Expert swordsmen and look-alikes for Jack Sparrow and Will Turner will be on hand to dazzle revellers.
People have been urged to dress as pirates for the party night on Sunday October 12.
Meanwhile, that little star with big dreams Angelina Ballerina will also drop into Walsall for a workshop with youngsters on October 9 and 10.
Councillor Louise Harrison, Walsall Council cabinet member for leisure and culture, said: “The Illuminations looks great this year and it’s so nice to see so many smiling faces.
“We’ve got a fantastic array of attractions on the horizon at the family friendly Illuminations in the coming days.
“Our pirate party night is shaping up to be absolutely fantastic and it looks as though the display of swordsmanship will be a real treat.”
The look-alikes will battle for the last golden sovereign as well as the hand of a fair maiden.”
In a change of pace the Angelina Ballerina workshop also promises to be popular.
Antonia Pompa, Walsall Council events and festivals officer, said that the dance-loving mouse has been a real hit with young audiences.
She added: “We know that she will be really popular with young children and it’s sure to be a great draw for families.
“She’ll be taking part in four short 20 minute workshops in our fabulous marquee so everyone will have a chance to see her. You’ll also have a chance to persuade the headstrong little mouse to perform her favourite dance routines.”
Children’s TV favourite Peppa Pig loves visiting new places and will make a special appearance on October 11 when she will visit the Arboretum and see the lights display for herself.
Gates open for the three events at 6.45pm with people urged to use the park and ride scheme in The Broadway which is sign posted on key routes into Walsall.
The Illuminations this year features more than 200 lights features with live shows and a laser show featuring TV cartoon character SpongeBob Squarepants.
