Fresh pallet appeal for Walsall bonfires

Date Published : 01 October 2008

Businesses are being urged to clear out their unwanted wooden pallets and donate them to a good cause – Walsall’s three borough bonfires.

The bonfires are set to run towards the end of October and in early November and Walsall Council’s parks staff have preparations well in hand to make the events a success.

Councillor Louise Harrison, Walsall Council Cabinet member for leisure and culture, said: “The nights are starting to draw in now and people’s thoughts are turning towards seasonal events.

“We have always had a good response from borough companies and are urging them to once again support our plea for pallets

“Walsall’s bonfires and fireworks displays really draw the crowds who come to enjoy all the fun in a safe, controlled environment.”

The bonfires are at King George V Park in Bloxwich on Saturday 25 October 2008, Holland Park, Brownhills, on Saturday 1 November 2008 and Willenhall Memorial Park on Saturday 8 November 2008.

Pallets can only be accepted the day before each bonfire.

The fires are lit at 7.00pm with the fireworks starting at 8.00pm. Admission is £3 for adults and £1 for children and visitors are not allowed to bring their own fireworks and sparklers because of safety regulations.

Alcohol is also not permitted at any of the events.

Anyone who can help out by donating pallets should contact John Morris on 07736 388418, John Millard on 07736 388409 or the parks team on 01922 654893, 01922 654894, 01922 654895 or 01922 654896.
