Talking Shop

For schools where the delivery of a lesson may not be appropriate you may feel that you would be more interested in our web based programme delivery.

"Talkingshop" brings various consumer education subjects to life through real time role-play via the Internet.  It is an interactive web based consumer education product which gives today's consumers the opportunity to interact with professional people in real time on consumer issues.

"Talkingshop" has been created to meet the National Curriculum objectives for schools.  Students really enjoy this style of learning as it is interactive, up to date, challenging and fun!  Teachers like this style of learning as it provides "full pupil participation" in each activity.  Everyone gets involved as students are put in the driving seat to face dilemmas and solve problems that they could encounter in every day real life.

"Talkingshop" offers three scenario based programmes for schools to utilise within their national curriculum.  The four areas are:

  1. Consumer Rights and Responsibilities - this scenario is aimed at 14/15 year olds (Year 10) this meets the National Curriculum for Citizenship Key Stage 4.  It has however been successfully used with older and younger students as well as adult groups.
The plight of the youngster who wants a mobile phone, but doesn't understand the complexities of the small print, or the teenager who buys a computer game over the Internet, changes their mind and is not aware that they have a cooling off period.
  2. Financial Literacy "money matters" - this scenario is aimed at 16/18 year olds.  Again, older and younger students as well as adult groups have successfully used this.  Many people today have financial problems, which they do not find easy to talk about.  Some people even think if they ignore it that the problem will go away!
"Money matters" covers such subjects as opening a bank account; credit and debt; credit scoring; credit cards; debit cards; repayment plans; gaurantors; Consumer Credit Act 1974 and much more.
  3. Anti Social Behaviour - this scenario is aimed at 15/16 year olds.  Again older and younger students as well as adult groups have successfully used this.
This scenario covers subjects such as ASBO's, anti social behaviour, peer pressure, the effects of drinking, bullying, why some products have age restrictions and much more.
  4. Food hygiene, healthy eating and nutrition - this scenario is aimed at 16/18 year olds.  Again older and younger students as well as adult groups have successfully used this.
This covers subjects such as learning about food labelling, how to prepare food hygienically, how to have a healthy balanced diet, nutrition and much more.
