By continuously developing and using expertise, information and ideas of staff we can drive the delivery of effective, efficient and cost effective services.

So how can we retain the valuable knowledge of staff and not lose it the moment staff leave the council.

Expertise

  • Encourage collaborative and joint working.

  • Ensuring that expertise is retained when someone leaves

  • Provide appropriate technology (Improved intranet, content management)
  • Prevent information duplication

  • Developing processes to capture the knowledge of staff.
  • Provide information about all council services

Ideas

  • Encourage creative teams and discussion groups
  • Create an environment for sharing and applying ideas and knowledge
  • Encouraging new ideas to be transferred into processes.

So what is happening at Walsall

The Knowledge management theme group are looking at some practical ways that we can deliver KM within Walsall. This will include improvements to the intranet, information about all services on the website, and a knowledge management strategy to assist Walsall use the intellectual capital of all staff to help us deliver more effective services.
