LNPs - get involved
Apply to become a Locally Appointed Partner (LAP)
If you wish to sit on the Local Neighbourhood Partnership in your area, you will be asked to fill in a nomination form. There are ten seats on each partnership and reselection of LAPs is taking place now. The closing date for completed nomination forms is 6 June 2008.
If you would like help with filling out the application form or would like further information, please contact the Neighbourhood Partnership team on 01922 653381. Please state which LNP you wish to join. Once you hand in your nomination form, it will go through a selection process.
Other ways of getting involved
If you are not interested in becoming a LAP or if there are no seats left on the LNP. You would still be able to get involved in other ways.
Attend a Local Neighbourhood Partnership Meeting
All Local Neighbourhood Partnership meetings are open to the public. Members of the public are able to speak in a public forum and have the opportunity to present petitions to the partnership.
Get involved in a Community Action Group (CAG)
What is the purpose of a CAG:
- CAGs aim to build active and influential communities based on mutual respect.
- CAGs work in a relaxed way as part of a working group of the Local Neighbourhood Partnership (LNP) inviting local people from the community and organisations, so that everyone can take part in influencing change.
- CAGs involve working with communities and all agencies in the public, private and community sector.
Who to expect at a CAG:
- NPO – Neighbourhood Partnership Officer
- CSO – Community Safety Officer
- Police Sergeant Representative
- Fire Representative
- Health Representative
- Other related Service Area Officers
- LNP members
How CAGs are a community process
The CAG process involves:
- tackling the issues which people in your community identify as being important to you.
- helping people understand why the issues they want to tackle have come about.
- networking with local groups and organisations, working together to find solutions to the problems in your area.
- working towards changes which reduce inequality in your local community.
What will CAGs mean for you and your neighbourhood?
The LNPs have already been listening to issues raised by local residents, the CAGs will build on this by facilitating closer links between services and the community.
The CAGs will bring you
- real opportunities for you and your neighbours to have a say about how to improve the local area
- new ways of making organisations accountable for their services and performance
- improved and co-ordinated local public services that are more responsive to local needs
- community development, help and support for people and organisations to get involved and be part of delivering the LNP Pledge action(s)
There are two types of CAGs, for each Neighborhood Partnership area, each meeting bi-monthly:
- Safer and Stronger Communities CAG - covering issues to do with creating safer and stronger communities and tackling environmental issues.
- Health and People CAG - covering issues related around health and people, in particular vulnerable people, young people and economic development.
Most of the CAG meetings have the following agenda:
6pm til 6.30pm - drop in for community to raise issues with service representatives
6.30pm til 7.15pm - focus on LNP Pledge
7.15pm til 8pm - presentation / information by service providers
7.15pm til 8pm - presentation/ information or consultation session on particular initiatives affecting the area and the CAG theme
Who should attend?
Anyone who has a genuine interest in the local community should come along. CAGs are held once a month, starting at 6pm and lasting for two hours, including a buffet and refreshments. If you wish to attend a CAG, but want to ensure the meeting is relevant to you and the agenda is as suggested above, please call Lucy Flowers on 01922 653381.
Become involved through the Community Forums
The Community Forums are umbrella groups, set up by the Community Empowerment Network (C.E.N.), which bring together local voluntary and community groups to discuss local priorities and issues. The forums are open to any one who is interested in getting involved and will act as a consultative body for the LNP’s when determining the priorities and issues in the Partnership Plans. For more information on the Community forums, please contact the Community Empowerment Network on 01922 619852.
Through consultation and events
Each of the LNP’s will carry out consultation through various means. If you find out about any consultation taking place in your area and you would like to raise issues, please get involved.
