Walsall Council consults with Blakenall residents
Date Published : 27 August 2008
As part of Walsall Council’s pledge to see the Blakenall Community Centre remain as a community facility a consultation event is being held on Monday September 1 2008 between 11:00am and 7:00pm.
Residents of all ages are urged to come along to the centre and put their views forward regarding what activities they would like to see running at the centre.
A Big Brother-style chair will be available to allow young people the opportunity to have their say.
All views will be recorded and plans made to try and meet the needs of the local community.
Councillor Garry Perry, Walsall Council cabinet member for safer, stronger communities, said: “We are making some big decisions on what people would like to see on offer at the Blakenall community centre.
“We are looking at what to offer whether that be a parent and toddler’s group, a regular tea dance or something for young people.
“The really important thing is to canvass the views of local people and appearing in a Big Brother-style chair could be a good way of encouraging young people to come forward and have a say.
“This is all about listening to what people have to say, acting upon it and trying to give the centre a whole new lease of life.
“If there are things that people would like to see at the Blakenall community centre then now really is the time to come down and have a say on things.”
The centre returned to Walsall Council earlier this year.
