The knife that killed me by Anthony McGowan

Another great book from the winner of Walsall's book award, Children's Choice in the category for teenage readers.

A boy is dragged into violence through the school bully.

'He is coming to kill me. Now would be a good time to run. I cannot run.'

When Paul ends up delivering a message from Roth to the leader of a gang at a nearby school, it fuels a rivalry with immediate consequences. Paul attempts to distance himself from the feud, but when Roth hands him a knife, it both enpowers him and scares him at the same time.

This gritty, thought provoking novel highlights the terrible consequences of peer pressure and violence. A great read.

Diary of a chav-trainers v. tiaras by Grace Dent

Read Shiraz's diary- it's full of her troubles. For now, she's stuck on an estate, with her sister, her mom and her loved up mate, Carrie. Hoodies, hip-hop and hanging about outside Claire's Accesssories, taking the dog for a walk and chasing after Wesley- these are all in Shiraz's world.

Hilarious story about a girl you will grow to love. Also other books in the series to catch up on further goss from your favourite chav.

Creature of the night by Kate Thompson

'I could hear Dennis talking to my ma. 'She was little, little like me. But old, older than you' he said. Those words gave me a cold shock.'
