Planning Committee

The planning committee is responsible for making decisions on the bigger and more sensitive planning applications received by the council.

The committee usually meets every 3rd Tuesday evening at 5.30pm in the Council House, Lichfield Street, Walsall.

Not all planning applications are determined by the committee. The scheme of delegations explaines what types of applications are determined by the committee.

The committee is made up of 20 councillors, one from all the wards in the borough. The remaining applications are determined by the Head of Planning and Building Control, under delegated powers.

You are welcome to attend this committee and listen to the debate, or you can book yourself in to speak directly to the councillors who make the decisions on planning applications. Please take a look at the planning committee public speaking procedure.

If you decide to attend the planning committee, copies of the agenda will be provided. In this there are reports of the planning applications that are to be decided at that meeting.

Not all of the reports are discussed in detail. Only those applications that have public speakers and where members of the committee need clarification of the issues raised in the report are usually discussed before a decision is made.

Sometimes decisions on applications are deferred so that further information can be obtained.
