Pelsall road to re-open this weekend

Contractors are due to finish essential bridge maintenance work in Pelsall this weekend – which means one of the village’s main routes will be re-opened.
Vicarage Road has been closed since 23 July 2008 while the work was carried out at the Fordbrook watercourse.
One of the wettest Augusts on record put paid to original plans to re-open the stretch in time for children returning to school after the summer break.
But contractors agreed to work weekends – weather permitting – to try and make up for lost time caused by the site being flooded.
The road is now scheduled to open late on Saturday evening.
Pelsall Councillor Garry Perry, Walsall Council Cabinet member for communities and partnerships, said: “This is good news for all Pelsall residents as well as the many drivers who use Vicarage Road.
“We want to thank people for their patience during the road closure and we appreciate that many were inconvenienced further when we couldn’t re-open it within our initial time frame.
“The appalling weather was beyond our control, however, and the flooding on the site itself caused by such high rainfall made it impossible for work to continue.
“The contractors, agreed to work weekends when weather permitted to try and make up for lost time and we are extremely grateful for their efforts.
“The road is also being resurfaced from the junction of Coronation Road to Pelsall Common and the improvements are very welcome.”
While work was carried out access for residents and emergency services was maintained and every effort was made to ensure noise pollution was kept to a minimum.
