Rushall Castle gateway and walls
The monument includes the crenallated curtain wall and intact gatehouse forming the curtain wall to Rushall Hall.
The curtain wall is constructed of limestone rubble and lime mortar, with the majority of the wall having battlements, except for a short length on the North-west corner, where the wall has possibly been incorporated in to the main house.
The gatehouse is centrally placed on the western side of the curtain wall, and is again constructed in limestone rubble and lime mortar. The inside includes an angled staircase. An excavation aimed at removing the deposits over the vault of the gatehouse revealed a brick hearth, part demolition of the gatehouse in the middle of the nineteenth century, and the subsequent creation of a garden.
The date of these two features is suspected to be Saxon or Early Medieval in date, possibly part of the original Hall, which was pulled down in the fourteenth century, and reconstructed. Dating has come from a small excavation in 1991 adjacent to the wall,
