Bryntysilio Outdoor Education Centre

Bryntysilio is situated two miles outside Llangollen in North Wales, and approximately one and a half hours from Walsall. The house stands in ten acres of its own grounds and overlooks the River Dee. There is easy access to the hills, rivers, forests and mountains of Snowdonia.

Accommodation

Bryntysilio can accommodate up to 45 people in rooms sleeping between two and six. There is a lounge, dining room, classroom, and adequate drying facilities. All specialist equipment is supplied and the Centre has its own minibuses to transport groups to sites appropriate for the work they are doing.

Staffing

The Centre is fully staffed with teachers who have considerable expertise and experience. They can provide courses that deliver most aspects of the curriculum. They are supported by cooking and cleaning staff under the supervision of the Domestic Bursar.

The Background to Bryntysilio

Bryntysilio was bought in 1968 by the Camp Trust and was converted to house thirty children and accompanying staff for short term residential visits. The Trust has forged an effective partnership with Walsall Education Services. For twelve weeks of the year the Trust has the use of the Centre in order to provide free holiday courses for disadvantaged children. Walsall Education Services uses the rest of the time to provide short residential courses to Walsall schools, using the outdoors as a resource to enhance the curriculum of both secondary and primary schools.

The Centre also provides training for teachers and youth leaders in outdoor skills and leadership.
