Ready Steady Summer
Activities for Children and Young People Summer 2008
Over the past five years, summer activities for children and young people across the borough have been provided through the Ready Steady Summer Programme funded by the council and its partners. Unfortunately this year, in spite of continued support by the council, we have been unable to attract sufficient funding from partners to support a programme of activity.
To ensure that some activity takes place and that it is accessible to children throughout Walsall £3,000 has been allocated to each LNP to organise and run activities in their area during August 2008. This not only ensures that children and young people will have something to do during the summer holiday, but that local people are involved in organising that activity and making sure that it meets the identified needs of children and young people in that area.
The allocation can only be used to put on activities aimed at children up to the age of 18 and must take place during the month of August this summer. Please read the Guidelines for events (PDF 90KB) and Funding request form (Word 40KB).
We are aware of some activities that are taking place in spite of the lack of an organised programme and these will be publicised in a brochure to go out to schools before the end of term. Timescales mean that Local Neighbourhood Partnership (LNP) activities will not appear in this publication, but can go on the council’s “What’s on Walsall” website.
Other agencies can be used to deliver the activities, but please do be aware that it is essential that everyone involved in delivering the activity must have a current Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check and that all activities must have a robust risk assessment.
