Apply for a operators licence

To apply for a private hire operators licence you need to contact the Licensing Office to arrange an appointment to process your application.   The following documents will need to be completed:

An application form can be requested by post or picked up from:

Alternatively, you can request a private hire operators licence form online

When attending your appointment, you must bring with you the following documentation:

• A recent passport style photograph of the licence holder and one of the nominated manager(s)
• One form of photographic identification
• The current application fee

Failure to attend with all of the required documents will cause a delay as your application will not be accepted.

What happens next

When all of the documents have been processed and cleared, you will be invited in to the Licensing Office to licence your private hire operator base. You will need to bring in the following documentation to this appointment:

• Valid planning permission or planning exemption
• Valid public liability insurance (premise risk only)
• A valid radio communications licence (if applicable)
• The current licence fee
• Completed private hire operator base form (issued on application)

Note:  Once licenced, you will have overall responsibility for any activities undertaken by drivers/proprietors working through your business.
