Living in the future – have your say

Date Published : 26 January 2007

Online services make life easier for council customers

Walsall residents can board a bus bound for the future and have their say on how people in the borough and the wider Black Country will live, travel, shop, work and play in 2021 and beyond.

Walsall Council regeneration officers are working with their counterparts in  Dudley, Sandwell and Wolverhampton to produce a Black Country Core Strategy.

And the council’s Strategic Regeneration Team has joined forces with Walsall Community Empowerment Network (CEN) and the Local Neighbourhood Partnership team to travel around the borough on the community bus.

Walsall Council regeneration officer Jon Lord said: “Why not drop in for an informal chat or play our interactive card game? Tell us your ideas for the future of housing, district centres, jobs, environment, transport and communities in Walsall.

“We are now identifying the issues and agreeing what the strategy will look like. This is your opportunity to influence its direction and ensure the document  reflects the needs and aspirations of Walsall people.”

The document will deal with land use, environmental, economic and social issues, as well as setting out the vision, objectives and strategy for future development in Walsall and the Black Country up to 2021.

It will build on the strategy of the Black Country Study to promote the regeneration of Walsall and the Black Country.

Walsall Council is arranging a number of local discussion events during January 2007 where you can learn more about the strategy and put forward your views. Details will soon be available on the council’s website: www.walsall.gov.uk

In the meantime, if you would like to discuss any issues related to the Core Strategy or wish to be included within the council’s planning database, please contact Jon Lord on 01922 652478 or e-mail ldf@walsall.gov.uk.
