Leather museum in 'Metal god' giveaway

Walsall heavy metal legend Rob Halford has returned to his roots to give some Christmas cheer to his hometown.

The Judas Priest front man has sent 500 promo copies of the Album Sampler to the Leather Museum to giveaway to people who pass through the doors.

Rob’s album ‘Halford III - Winter Songs’ were recorded in the USA but Rob has maintained links with the borough where his family still live.

Councillor Mike Bird, Walsall Council Leader, said: Rob is known the world over for his music. His legion of fans know him as a ‘metal god’ but it’s brilliant that he has kept links with his hometown.

Rob, who is known for riding onto stage on a Harley Davidson wearing motorcycle leathers, spends most of the year in the USA but still returns home to Walsall on a regular basis.

To collect a free album sampler promo CD visit Walsall Leather museum in Littleton Street, Walsall.

A total of 500 promo album samplers will be available to museum visitors on a first come first serve basis.

Sue Buckler, of Plug and Play Promotions, said that Rob still has strong links to Walsall.

She added: He has always said that he wanted to produce a Christmas CD. They’ve assembled a fantastic release with a collection of holiday tracks he and his band have enjoyed from an early age.”

The album includes ‘Get Into the Spirit’, ‘When Christmas Comes For Everyone’, ‘Light Of The World’, ‘What Child Is This’, and ‘Come All Ye Faithful.’

The full album is available on the Metal Gods label via record shops and www.halfordmusic.com.

Walsall Leather museum showcases the town’s heritage with the trade which continues to this day.

A competition to win merchandise is also to be staged on www.walsall.gov.uk and via Walsall Council’s Twitter feed @walsallcouncil.

The museum is open 10am to 5pm Tuesday to Saturday and is closed December 24 to 27 and New Years Day.
