Brownhills market re-opens

Delighted regeneration bosses praised shoppers after more than 4,000 people turned out for the re-opening of Brownhills market.

A stilt walker, fun fair and face painting were amongst the attractions at the re-vamped Silver Street venue.

Walsall Council staff had worked hard to ensure the day passed off successfully.

Councillor Adrian Andrew, Walsall Council cabinet member for regeneration, said: "It's been fantastic.

"It's good to see so many people turn out and support their market.

"We stepped in as a council to bring this market back to life. Seeing these crowds I know it was the right thing to do.

"I hear that the butcher was saying there was a queue of people waiting for him to open up. Many were regulars. That's exactly what we wanted to see and all those who returned, shoppers and traders alike deserve a pat on the back.

"Let's not forget the ward members of Brownhills of all political colours for showing their support.

"If things continue to prosper who knows? We can start to think about adding days."

All eighty stalls were snapped up by market traders with a handful not turning up on the day.

Trading standards are keeping a close eye on the market to combat counterfeiters.

Staff from the team which combats bootleggers will be keeping a close eye on the products sold to help markets staff maintain high standards.

Brownhills market is set to continue operating every Saturday and Tuesday from 9am to 4pm.
