GCSE Results

This year Walsall has achieved the best GCSE results ever. Early indications show that there has been a significant improvement of around 8% in the number of students gaining five or more A*-C grades at GCSE this year. In addition there has been a significant 5% improvement in those gaining 5 or more grades at GCSE including English and mathematics.

Tony Stainer, Managing Director of Walsall Children’s Services – Serco, said:

“It is great news that a number of schools are reporting significant improvements with the five or more grades including English and mathematics at GCSE. Those reporting high improvements include:

Alumwell (up from 26% last year to 33%), Barr Beacon(42% to 53%), Blue Coat (26 to 35%) Joseph Leckie (30 to 47%), Shelfield (20% to 30%), St Thomas More (25% to 37%) and The Streetly School (50% to 56%).

A number of schools are reporting significant improvements with the five or more A*-C grades including:

Alumwell (up from 33% to 44%); Barr Beacon (50% to 66%), Blue Coat (40% to 61%); Joseph Leckie (36% to 53%); Shelfield (50% to 78%); St Thomas More (46% to 58%) and The Streetly School (63% to 72%). I offer my congratulations to the students and thank staff, governors and parents for the support they have provided – everyone is to be congratulated.
