Dress and the Rise of Industry at Walsall Museum

Jane Austen buffs are in for a treat with a special talk scheduled to take place at Walsall Museum on Thursday 07 August.

Honorary costume curator Sheila Shreeve will be giving a talk on dress and clothing worn during the industrial revolution (1785-1830), often immortalised on-screen in the BBC’s Austen romantic drama, Pride & Prejudice.

Drawing upon Sheila’s extensive knowledge of the history of costume, visitors will be able to discover how people dressed during the industrial age, a time when fashions changed from the elaborate outfits of the eighteenth century to the slim, high waisted muslin gowns of the Regency period, and back to the fuller skirts of the later 1820s.

The talk will take place on Thursday 07 August between 2pm and 3pm.

It’s free to attend but booking is essential.
