Nottingham Declaration

The Nottingham Declaration

At its Board meeting held on 17 December 2007, Walsall Partnership (formerly Walsall Borough Strategic Partnership) announced its commitment to tackling climate change in Walsall by signing up to the Nottingham Declaration.

The Nottingham Declaration, launched in October 2000 and subsequently re-launched in December 2005, is a voluntary pledge to address the issues of climate change.  The Nottingham Declaration development group of members include the Carbon Trust, Energy Savings Trust, the Environment Agency, ICLEI (an association of local governments dedicated to sustainable development and a sustainability and environmental agency), the Improvement and Development Agency (I&DeA), the Local Government Association (LGA), Nottingham City Council and UK Climate Impacts Programme (UKCIP). Over 300 local authorities have already signed the declaration.

The next step being taken by Walsall Partnership is for each partner organisation to draw up its own action plan to establish ways in which it can tackle the effects of climate change.
