Scheme Description
The scheme will deliver high quality key improvements to the existing sports and youth facilities in Palfrey Park . It is being run in partnership with the Palfrey Park Friends and Users Association and will benefit the local community, including young people and existing users of the facilities.
The scheme has been designed in partnership with park users, local residents, sports groups and young people through a series of consultation exercises.
The project consists of three distinct elements,
- To redesign and extend the existing tennis courts (upper court) to provide open plan multi-games areas with kick walls.
- To redesign and regenerate the existing multi sports court (lower court) to provide a dedicated basketball court and marked 5 aside facility with spectator terrace and youth shelter.
- To provide a new central path, providing good access to the improved facilities and link to the wider redesigned path network and parks facilities. (Funding contributed through Heritage Lottery Fund Programme)
The scheme forms part of a wider three-year programme (2002 – 2005), funded through the Heritage Lottery Fund Urban Parks Programme, Single Regeneration Budget 5, Ibstock Cory Environmental Trust and various other funding sources to restore and regenerate the park and its facilities based on a community consulted and agreed masterplan.
