Red route proposal for Bloxwich
Walsall Council are proposing plans to implement a Red Route along the A34 including Bloxwich High Street. Initial workshops were held in December 2006 where local traders & Stakeholders were invited to provide their views on the problems faced along the High Street and develop outline proposals for consultation. The plans developed in conjunction with the traders form the basis of the consultation proposals, we are now keen to obtain your views on the proposals so that we can finalise our plans ready to carry out the works during 2008.
What is the aim of the scheme?
The Bloxwich High Street section of the A34 is an important section of road that is heavily used by both pedestrians and road users. The aim of the scheme is to better manage the movements along the High Street by using Red Route measures which will enable the traffic to move more reliably, improve access to facilities on the High Street, and increase safety for pedestrians.
What are the proposals?
The measures proposed as part of the Red Route scheme are:
Replacing existing ‘yellow line’ waiting restrictions with new Red Route lines, signs and enforcement. Increasing the number of parking, loading and disabled bays both on and off the High Street.
- Providing better enforcement to eliminate illegal stopping and parking,
- Making more efficient use of road space to improve traffic flow and journey times
- Introduction of a Ring and Ride (drop off/pick up point) facility near the market area
- Pedestrian facilities implemented at the Bell Lane/Stafford Road junction
- Proposed signalisation of the High Street/Wolverhampton Road junction
Which roads are affected?

The Red Route scheme will follow the whole of the A34 north of Walsall town centre, building on the introduction of Red Route proposals along the entire Length of the A34 in the West Midlands. The first phase of the scheme was the completion of the junction improvement at Hospital Street/ Old Birchills/Green Lane. The next phase of implementation is Bloxwich High Street. This will run from the junction with Elmore Green Road up to the Bell Lane / Stafford Road junction. The Red Route restrictions will be applied to both sides of the carriageway. The plan shown below illustrates the area that will be affected by the proposals.
