Red route proposal for A454 BCR

Walsall Council are proposing plans to implement a Red Route along the A454 Black Country Route/A463/A4444 and the Black Country New Road. The proposals have initially been developed by identifying the local needs for the area and the council is now looking to seek peoples views on the proposals.

The purpose of the consultation is to obtain your views on the proposals so that we can finalise our plans ready to carry out the works, below is a brief overview of the scheme:

Aim of the scheme

The section of the A454 Black Country Route is a strategic route that crosses both Walsall and Wolverhampton boundaries.  It is heavily used by vehicles at all times of the day.

The aim of the scheme is to control the movements along the Black Country Route by using Red Route enforcement which will enable the traffic to move more freely and decrease the journey time for road users.

Proposals

The measures proposed as part of the Red Route scheme are:

  • Replacing existing ‘yellow line’ waiting restrictions with new Red Route lines, signs and enforcement.
  • Improve the Advance Directional Signway along the whole of the Route
  • Improving Lining/Road Markings on the approaches to some islands along the Route
  • Enhancing the whole route by laying new consistent restrictions that are clear and easy to understand.

Roads affected

An image of the A454The Red Route Scheme will follow the length of the A454 Black Country Route from the M6 Junction 10 down the Back Country route up to the Keyway Junction and along the A463/A4444 to Moxley Rd Junction and the Black Country New Road

The Red Route restrictions will be applied to both sides of the carriageway. The plan shown below illustrates the area that will be affected by the proposals.
