Primley Avenue Minor Project

October 2008

Following the completion of the public consultation, Walsall Council would like to take this opportunity to thank you for sharing your views and thoughts concerning the current issues along Primley Avenue. We have compiled the all of your views and tried to answer them and amend the new proposals as best as we can.

The Primley Avenue Minor Project has now been forwarded to Detailed Design. The revised proposals will now be drawn to construction specification. The Detail Design process will be complete by January 2009.

August 2008

Walsall Council is proposing to remove the grass verges along the left hand side of Primley Avenue. (From Reservoir Street). This minor project has been a result of issues and concerns raised at the Red Route public consultation for the A454 Wolverhampton Road in June 2008.

Problem

The biggest problem identified along Primley Avenue is the congestion, which occurs around the school sites at peak times. Parents collecting and dropping off children are causing an obstruction to the road by parking around the bell mouths of junctions, parking on both sides of the road and obstructing residents’ driveways.

Proposals

To help resolve this issue, we are proposing the following:

  • The removal of the grass verges on the school side of Primley Avenue to create new parking bays off the main carriageway to keep the road free from parked vehicles.
  • Introduce a parking restriction along certain sections of Primley Avenue and side streets at peak times. These peak times will be from 8am – 9.30am and 2.30pm – 4pm. Theses areas will have a single yellow line painted along the road.
  • The remaining kerbs that have not been altered at the Primley / Blay Avenue junction will be dropped in keeping with the other drives. This will act as a further deterrent for people parking over resident’s driveways.

Further to the identification of issues related to school parking, we have identified that a large percentage of houses on the left side park on the grass verges or on the road because of the lack of off-road facilities. We also propose to remove the grass verges at the top of Primley Avenue on the left side of the carriageway. This will ensure the maximum flow of traffic travelling from the top of Primley Avenue down to the bottom approaching Wolverhampton Road.

As part of the new civil enforcement policy, Primley Avenue will be regularly policed ensuring that these new traffic regulations are adhered to.
