Route 301 Bus showcase
The Route 301 Walsall to Bloxwich Bus Showcase scheme was opened in July 1998. Since the introduction of the original scheme surveys have shown that more than 13,000 vehicles travel along Bloxwich Road between 7am and 7pm on an average weekday. The current bus services along the Bloxwich Road corridor carry more than 1.5 million passengers per year, making services along this corridor some of the busiest in the West Midlands.
The council has been monitoring the scheme with a view to making further improvements where possible. With changing traffic and travel patterns the original scheme is now in need of updating.
Walsall Council is undertaking consultation on draft scheme proposals and would welcome your views on them. This information gives you a brief overview of the aims of our scheme proposals, and more information is available at the consultation exhibitions which are mentioned below.

What is the aim of the scheme?
Our scheme proposals are intended to:
- improve traffic journey times between Walsall town centre and the junction of Bloxwich Road with Leamore Lane and Harden Road;
- reduce congestion on the section of Bloxwich Road between Walsall town centre and the junction of Bloxwich Road with Leamore Lane and Harden Road,
- improve the capacity of the junction of Bloxwich Road with Leamore Lane and Harden Road; and
- introduce bus priority measures for northbound buses at the junction of Bloxwich Road and Carl Street.
What are the scheme proposals?
A junction improvement scheme at Bloxwich Road/ Leamore Lane/ Harden Road junction
The junction suffers congestion during the morning and evening rush hour periods. This diagram shows our scheme proposal which is intended to improve traffic flows through this junction, and reduce queues and delays. Works to widen the junction, and changes to signal timings, will improve the flow of traffic though this junction. Banning the right turn from Bloxwich Road into Harden Road will improve northbound traffic flow by removing the obstruction that is caused by the small numbers of right turning traffic waiting in the junction.

Introducing traffic signals at the junction of Bloxwich Road and Carl Street
It is proposed to signalise this junction which will be linked to the Leamore Road/Harden Road junction to better manage traffic along Bloxwich Road. The proposal will assist general traffic flows whilst reinforcing the existing bus priority measures that are in place.

Improvements to the roundabout at Green Lane / Leamore Lane / Somerfield Road junction
Improvements to the roundabout are proposed which will improve safety for circulating traffic and provide better pedestrian crossing facilities by introduction of wider refuges at the junction. This scheme is designed to complement the junction improvement at Bloxwich Road / Leamore Lane / Harden Road junction.
