Arriva 33 (Brownhills – Hednesford) Bus Showcase Scheme
The Arriva 33 Bus Showcase scheme is a project that is being jointly promoted and developed by Walsall Council, Centro (the West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive) and the bus operator (Arriva Midlands). Further information on Bus Showcase schemes is available on the Centro website.
The bus service operates every 20 minutes between Brownhills and Hednesford (via Cannock and Heath Hayes). The section of route in Walsall is 3.3km long and has 16 stops, running from Brownhills High Street, along Chester Rd North and through the Wilkin Estate in Brownhills West.
The main elements of the Bus Showcase proposals are:
- To upgrade waiting facilities for passengers by upgrading shelters (provided by Centro), which are subject to a frequent cleaning and maintenance schedule.
- To provide low-floor easy access buses and customer service trained drivers, provided by Arriva Midlands, the operator of the Route 33 service in Brownhills.
- To improve the footway around bus stops and provide specialised kerbing (Kassel kerbs), which allow low-floor buses to dock level with the footway, making boarding and leaving buses easier for people with disabilities, the elderly and passengers with pushchairs and young children.
Initial consultation with residents and public transport users in Brownhills has already taken place. The council and Centro are currently undertaking detailed consultation with residents of properties in the immediate vicinity of each bus stop or shelter along the route. The consultation period will run from late November 2007 until Friday 28 January 2008.
The scheme is funded through the West Midlands Local Transport Plan and it is intended to implement the scheme in Spring 2008.
