Bus showcase
Bus Showcase is a unique and high-profile scheme that upgrades all aspects of bus travel in order to retain existing bus passengers and attract new passengers. Bus Showcase routes operate across the seven West Midlands district authorities in partnership with Centro, bus operators and West Midlands Police. Bus Showcase reflects a commitment to giving the West Midlands a truly first-class bus service in keeping with the region's national importance.
Bus Showcase is based on a whole route concept and aims to improve not only the 'bus part' of the journey but also access to bus stops and ease of transfer to other forms of transport.
All Bus Showcase routes feature brand new buses and enclosed glass shelters with improved lighting and pavement access. Each stop along the route includes easy access kerbs.
Typically, Showcase routes incorporate highway measures such as bus lanes and bus advance signals. These allow buses to keep moving, bypass queues and achieve consistent journey times.
Some bus shelters along Showcase routes are equipped with real time displays that show the arrival time of the next two buses, and CCTV cameras to increase passenger safety.
The interiors of Showcase buses are cleaned every day and all aspects of the service are subject to continued monitoring and review.
In Walsall the following routes have been completed (correct as at July 2004):
- Line 33 – Birmingham – Pheasey
- Route 301/171 – Walsall – Mossley via Bloxwich
- Route 560 – Bloxwich – Wolverhampton
The following routes are currently being developed or implemented:
- Route 529 – Walsall – Wolverhampton
- Route 311/313 – Walsall – Stourbridge
- Route 404 – Walsall – Blackheath via West Bromwich
- Route 33 – Brownhills – Hednesford
- Route 51 – Walsall – Birmingham
