Road markings on the public highway
The Highways Maintenance Group is responsible for the replacement and maintenance of all road markings on the public highway within the borough of Walsall. The work is undertaken by a private contractor appointed by the council annually. All markings applied are in accordance with the Traffic Signs and General Directions 2002.
What to expect from the service
We will appoint a suitably experienced and qualified contractor with employees who are aware of both the job requirements and Health and Safety Regulations to enable them to carry out the work safely and with as little disruption to residents and road users as possible.
We will undertake work at the most appropriate time of day based on road conditions, location and level of traffic usage. Unless there is an emergency, work on the principal road network will only be undertaken between 9.30am - 3.30pm and if appropriate will be carried out at night or on Sunday.
Weather permitting; we will replace road markings on resurfaced roads within one week of the completion of resurfacing work, with pedestrian crossings and other markings with safety implications, replaced within two working days.
We will remark road markings reported to us, weather permitting, within a month of being informed.
You can expect to be treated with courtesy and respect and you will be given the name of the person you are speaking to.

The Highways Maintenance Group would request that if residents or road users notice any removed damaged or worn markings that they report them as soon as possible.
We would also request that road users understand that work has to be carried out and whilst we try to keep delays to a minimum we would ask them to show some patience and consideration to allow the work to be completed as quickly and safely as possible.
