Safer routes to school
These projects aim to create safer conditions for pupils to travel to and from school. As over one in three young people at secondary school say that they would like to cycle to school, many measures have been introduced to help cyclists as well as pedestrians. During the last two years more than ten schools in the borough have taken part in projects and over £2.5 million is planned to be spent as part of the Local Transport Plan between 2003 and 2010.
Many schools have been provided with secure cycle parking and it is often available for community users and visitors. New shared use paths have been provided to Manor Farm, Joseph Leckie, Willenhall, Lodge Farm, Sneyd and Brownhills Schools . Wherever possible these are linked to existing cycle routes and designed to benefit local communities as well as schools.
