Services for black and minority ethnic people
People experiencing mental health problems can often become isolated from their own community either because of the way in which their illness is causing them to behave or, because of a lack of understanding by the community of mental health issues.
The mental health teams try to ensure that contact is made to any local community groups who may be able to offer support for example, if someone is an asylum seeker or refugee.
There are some organisations that will specifically offer services for mental health needs.
The Black Women's Centre offers culturally sensitive services to African and African–Caribbean mental health service users.
AAINA Elderly and Carers Well-being offer a women only service to Asian women who care for someone who has mental health problems
