Help for carers of people with learning disabilities

Many people with a learning disability get help from their family. This can range from caring for someone every day and night in the family home to visiting someone living in their own accommodation.

We realise how important carers are to the lives of people with a learning disability and want to help them in their caring role. The support we can offer includes-

  • arranging support for the person cared for to lessen the care provided by the carer
  • providing short breaks either in the person’s home, in the community or overnight in a care home or adult placement
  • helping the carer with other tasks so that they are freed up to provide support to the person cared for, and
  • planning ahead for what will happen when the carer is no longer able to provide support.

If you would like to find out what help you as a carer can receive, please contacted the integrated team.
