Direct payments for carers

What are Direct Payments?

They are cash payments made to an individual by Walsall Council, instead of social care arranging that persons care / support needs.

Direct Payments is not a benefit and it will not affect any benefits you receive. Direct Payments is not deemed as income so this will not prevent you from claiming benefits.

How do I find out if I can receive Direct Payments?

In order to receive a direct payment as a carer you need to be eligible for carers' services. To find out whether you are eligible you need to ask for a carer's assessment from Walsall Social Care.

What happens next?

It is for you to discuss with the social worker how best you feel you can be supported and whether direct payments are your preferred means of providing you with this support.

Direct Payments for people that you care for

The person you care for may also be able to receive direct payments. This means that you or the person you care for could get money to arrange care for yourself instead of Walsall Social Care arranging it for you.

If you would like more information about Direct Payments please visit our Direct Payments page.

One off payments

You may also be able to receive one off payments for help with specific tasks.  See our one off payments leaflet for more information.
