Home care services

What is home care?

The council provides help with personal care and domestic tasks to vulnerable adults in Walsall. We do our best to make sure that services are flexible and that they meet people’s individual needs. Our aim is to help you to be as independent as possible.

Some people may need home care services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and other people may only need our services for a short time. We may provide the service ourselves or we may arrange it through one of our contracted providers.

The kinds of help we offer include:

  • personal care
  • shopping
  • pension collection / payment of bills
  • laundry and ironing
  • escorting

This is only a general list. We are able to offer many other kinds of help as well.

Can I get home care?

There are eligibility criteria for this service and not everyone will be able to receive it. To find out if you can get a home care service, you need to speak to us and ask for an assessment. This is when one of our staff talks with you to get your views on the kind of help you need and what services we may be able to provide.

You can contact us for an assessment by calling the locality office nearest to you. Our staff will let you know whether or not you may qualify for a service. We may need to see you to make a decision about this. How long it takes for us to meet with you will depend on how urgent your situation is.

How much will it cost?

There is a charge for this service. If you get home care services we will ask you about your fi nances and decide how much you are able to pay. For more information on what our services cost, contact the public information officer on 01922 658368 and ask for a copy of our ‘Fairer Charging’ leaflet.

If you are getting help from us you can choose to have the money to pay for these services and choose who you want to carry out the services for you. This is called direct payments. For more information view our direct payments page or contact the public information officer on 01922 658368 and ask for a copy of our ‘Direct Payments’ leaflet.
