Darlaston Regeneration Framework Strategy
Darlaston update
The next stage of consultation will soon be with us where we will present to the community the final strategy for Darlaston - look out for the 'Big Red Bus' in the Darlaston area.
Project overview
Walsall Council in partnership with Walsall Housing Group and members of the the Darlaston project reference group selected Urbed, specialist Urban Regeneration consultants, who have been tasked with the production of a regeneration strategy for the Darlaston area. Urbed are leading a consortium of consultants including DTZ, SQW Consulting, JMP and Landscape Projects who will be working closely with Council officers, Walsall Housing Group, Walsall Regeneration Company, Darlaston PRG and other partners such as NHS Walsall and Education Walsall to devise a 'vision' for the future of Darlaston.
We are continuing to get the local community involved in the development of the project as their input is a vitally important element, the website will be updated with consultation dates and progress with the strategy.
For an insight into the type of work Urbed's specialise in, visit the Urbed website.

Project description
The Strategic Regeneration Framework proposes remodelling the district centre around King Street introducing new activities and larger shop units. It also involves the relocation of key services and agencies into the centre, and the introduction of new residential uses. The focus will be upon the centre of Darlaston although the boundary area also includes the surrounding residential and some of the nearby employment uses, including an element of the Darlaston Strategic Development Area (industrial land to the east of Darlaston).
Darlaston is a complex area with a wide variety of land use issues, significant areas of important green space and a rich industrial heritage - all of which need to be considered and comprehensively addressed through any regeneration proposals brought forward. The regeneration of Darlaston will also take full account of the community and social aspects of regeneration such as comprehensive community involvement in the decision making process, training and skills development as well as the traditional physical built environment works.
