Outreach Team

What does the outreach team do?

We work with both foster carers and children and young people who are looked after to make sure that their placement with their foster carer is a stable one.

We also work one to one with children and young people to help them and offer support. We help children and young people who are currently with foster carers as well as children who have returned home. We can also put you in touch with other agencies who can give you more specialised help.

We also work to make sure that looked after children and young people have a voice. We do this through the ‘Respect Group’.

Respect group

There are two different respect groups, one for people 7-10 years old and one for people 11-16 years old. The group is for looked after young people who are in long term foster care placements.

What can young people get from the group?

  • make new friends
  • feel a sense of belonging
  • learn about themselves and others
  • make decisions together
  • have a voice, make things matter
  • talk and share problems
  • develop confidence and new skills
  • participate in group activities and games
  • go on outings and visits
  • be involved in workshops – consultation and participation

What do young people like about the group?

  • being able to express their views and opinions
  • being listened to
  • being part of a group
  • being valued and appreciated and supported in different activities
  • feeling important and understood

How do I become part of the Respect Group?

To become a member, a social worker or link worker has to make a referral to the Project Co-ordinator of the Outreach Team.  Their contact details are below. A visit will then be arranged to meet with you to explain about the Respect Group and an introduction will take place.

We organise various events and projects. Previous projects have involved making a soap video called 'The Other Side of Life' and a music CD-Rom.

Team A

Team A is a steering group of six looked after young people who plan, design and manage projects for other looked after young people with assistance, support and guidance of the Outreach Team.
