The main roles of Pollution Control regarding industrial noise are:
- Investigation and service of abatement notices in respect to statutory noise and/or vibration nuisances
- Prosecution for non-compliance with abatement notices
- Defence of appeal proceedings at Magistrates, Crown and High Court
- Issue of prior consents and noise control notices for construction sites and engineering operations to regulate noise and vibration, and their subsequent enforcement
- Ambient noise surveys
- Preparation of responses to central government consultative documents on behalf of the council
