A 25ft tall climbing tower, believed to be the tallest in the West Midlands, has been unveiled in Walsall and has been touring the borough over the summer.

The cylindrical mobile climbing frame called ‘Reach Up’, which is easily transported on its own trailer and 4x4, was purchased with over £40,000 funding from a National Lottery Grant.

Walsall Council’s community development team purchased the Reach Up Tower as part of the authority’s Play Strategy which aims to create high quality play opportunities for all children and young people in the borough.

The climbing frame, which is made of steel and has elasticated webbing straps, is aimed for adults as well as children and is part of the council’s vision to get more people fit and active in their communities.

The Mayor of Walsall, Councillor John O’Hare, officially unveiled the tower at Walsall Arboretum recently.

The community development team will be arranging for the Reach Up Tower to stop at various areas in the borough throughout the summer, so that children and adults from across the borough of Walsall can enjoy it.

It will be completely free of charge for children to enjoy during these times.

Councillor Barry Sanders, cabinet member for leisure, culture and lifelong learning at Walsall Council, said: “We are really excited about this fantastic climbing frame, which will not only be fun for both children and adults but will also help towards better fitness and activity.

“The tower is completely safe to use and when at the top there will be a brilliant view of the park or locality. Our team are really looking forward to taking it to all neighbourhoods for our communities to enjoy,” he added.
