Panel remit

All aspects and general services related to serving the community, for example; community safety, leisure, libraries, heritage, neighbourhood partnership services, services relating to the built environment such as waste management, highways maintenance and traffic management, the management of land and property, public protection within the functions set out in section 21 of the Local Government Act 2000. Work programme for 2008/09.

The work programme is indicative and subject to change but issues that are scheduled to be looked at this year include:

  • Impact of Decriminalised Parking
  • Highways Maintenance
  • Impact of Street Trading Review
  • Sustainable Travel to School Policy
  • Strategic Review of Leisure Centres
  • Budget Monitoring and Setting
  • Community Cohesion Strategy

Working groups

Anti-Social Behaviour Working Group

The Working Group has been established to consider the range of policies and practices that are used in the borough to combat anti-social behaviour across the four themes of: prevention, education, enforcement and rehabilitation.

Once the Working Group has considered the management options it will make recommendations to the Neighbourhoods Scrutiny and Performance Panel and then to Cabinet who will consider them for implementation.

Councillor Call for Action Working Group

The Working Group is considering the implementation of the Councillor Call for Action that was introduced as part of the Police and Justice Act 2006 and the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007.

Once the Working Group has completed its investigations it will report to the Neighbourhoods Scrutiny and Performance Panel and then to Cabinet who will consider the Working Groups recommendations for implementation.

Waste Management Working Group

The Working Group has been established to consider changes to the councils waste collection service to ensure that future recycling targets can be achieved.

Once the Working Group has completed its investigations it will report to the Neighbourhoods Scrutiny and Performance Panel and then to Cabinet who will consider the Working Groups recommendations for implementation.
