What are community meals?
Walsall Council’s community meals service delivers hot meals to people who, due to frailty, illness or impairment, may be unable to prepare a meal for themselves.
Meals can be provided up to seven days a week direct to your home. Hot meals are to be eaten straight away; on no account should they be left to be re-heated at a later time. You will be provided with a menu by the driver from which you can choose your meal. If you have a special diet, please let us know.
Can I get community meals?
We normally provide this service to people who would not otherwise be able to have a hot, nutritious mid-day meal.
To find out if you can get community meals from social services, you need to contact us and ask for an assessment. This is when one of our staff talks with you to get your views on the kind of help you need and what services we may be able to provide.
You can contact us for an assessment by calling the locality office nearest to you. Our staff will let you know whether or not you may qualify for a service. We may need to see you to make a decision about this. How long it takes for us to meet with you will depend on how urgent your situation is.
How much will it cost?
There is a charge for this service. We will tell you the current charge when we talk to you.
Cancelling meals
If you need to cancel meals for any reason please inform the meals on wheels service immediately.
How long will I receive the service?
A date for reviewing your services will be agreed as the service starts. We may change your meals on wheels services if your needs change.
