Biography of current Mayor
Tom Ansell was born in Blakenall, Walsall and has lived there most of his life.
He attended Blakenall C.E. School and then to R.E. Thomas Boys School.
At 15 when he left school he was employed by Elkington Silver Ware and went on to work in the engineering trade, the licensing and retail trade. He finally retired in 2002 from Wagon Industries in Brownhills after 26 years service to lead the Council full time.
Tom became a Councillor in 1980 serving Blakenall Ward for 6 years as an independent. He lost his seat in 1986 but was re-elected in 1987 in Aldridge Central South Ward.
He is former Chair of Housing Personnel and led the Council from 2002 – 2007.
He retains an interest in gardening and enjoys reading.
Tom has been married to his wife Rosemary for 41 years this year and has two sons and four grandchildren.
