West Midlands tourism facts

West Midlands visitor economy strategy

From April 2003 onwards, Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) became responsible for the strategic development of tourism in their areas. As part of this process, Advantage West Midlands (AWM) has developed a
visitor economy strategy for the West Midlands (external link), as a framework for partnership to drive growth in the sector across the region.

The strategy feeds into the
West Midlands Regional Economic Strategy (external link), which is the framework for the regions's economic development up until 2010.

Vision for West Midlands visitor economy
for 2010 and beyond

The West Midlands will be recognised for its continuing growth, and for the excellence of a number of sophisticated, world-class urban and authentic rural destinations for business and leisure visitors, which showcase the region's creativity and its heritage, celebrate its diversity, and set new standards for quality and sustainability.
